My Photography featured on the EYE'EM iPhone Photography blog

    via eyeem.com

HI ALEX, WHO ARE YOU? AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

My name is Alexander Kesselaar. I was born in Bremen, Germany and now live in Sydney, Australia. I am photographer ( www.alexkess.com ), photoblogger ( blog.alexkess.com ), self-proclaimed socialmedia-geek, barista, Fanatical Football-Supporter (Sydney FC & Werder Bremen), Dad, Husband and Friend. I take photos with anything that has the ability to capture light and one of those things happens to be my iPhone. If you want to know what I am doing and what I am currently taking photos of, you are best of to go and check out my twitter account @alexkess or check out my flickr photo stream.

WHAT IS THE BEAUTY OF MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY IN YOU EYES?

Mobile Photography or in my case iPhoneography due to its simplicity and ease of use, really brings photography back to the basics of content, context and composition. And once I have taken the photo I move on to process it right on my phone. I usually use a combination of different apps. TiltshiftGen and MillColour (or Camerabag) is a match made in heaven. Then I move on to post the picture, straight from the phone to my flickr stream, facebook, posterous, tumblr and twitter. On a good day I am over and done with the whole process of shooting, editing and posting in 3 minutes. On another level it has also turned everybody that owns one of these devices in to an artist and journalist. It gives a lot of people a voice and a platform to show their talent and tell their story.

HOW HAS MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY INFLUENCED STREET PHOTOGRAPHY?

I think that mobile photography just made street photography a whole lot easier and less invasive. I was always one of these photographers who really liked the idea of  always carrying my SLR Camera around everywhere I go. In reality however I really can’t be bothered. It is bulky, obtrusive and very obvious when you use it. I constantly carry my iPhone with me. People don’t really notice and/or care when you take photos, because you really just look like a geek, not like a pro, overzealous amateur or german-tourist.

WHAT ARE YOUR PREDICTIONS? WHERE IS MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY GOING?

I predict an app for my iPhone 4g in 2011, that will give me a 1st Gen iPhone look. It will happen and I will download it.

WHAT IS YOUR SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?

Speaking of it, being a tourist in everything you do is not such a bad thing. I always try to look at everything as if I am seeing it for the first time. I believe that there is beauty everywhere we look. That makes it very easy to find inspiration. This is also something that was confirmed when I started my Iphone 365 Project, where I post one iphone photo everyday for 1 year. After a while you really have to find beauty in the most unusual places, to keep things interesting. My most meaningful picture?
